Anthony Joshua Discharged from Medical Facility in Nigeria Following Fatal Car Crash

Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has been released from care, Nigerian authorities stated on Wednesday evening. The 36-year-old was part of a serious road collision in the Lagos area on December 29th, a horrific crash that claimed the lives of two of his team members.

Healing from Light Wounds

Joshua had remained in the hospital while recovering from minor injuries, his management team had said on Monday. The Lagos state commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed in an update on social media that Joshua was deemed clinically fit to “recuperate at home”.

“The boxer and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to offer their condolences to his two friends who passed away as they were being readied to be sent home,” the official remarked.

Honoring the Deceased

The two men who died were named as Latif Ayodele, a fitness coach, and Sina Ghami, a strength and conditioning coach. The official further stated that the champion was filled with sorrow and deeply emotional over the loss of his two trusted companions.”

His release from the hospital arrives after the boxing community offered condolences for the fighter in the wake of the terrible crash.
