A Heap of Anime Updates Landed Over the Festive Season

The Christmas holidays present a multitude of pastimes much better than scanning the latest news: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on delicious food, and using deep breathing to avoid yelling at family members. Hopefully you managed to accomplish all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy news items came out during the festive period, and should you overlooked some of them, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Will Continue (In 2027)

Perhaps the most surprising revelation, the much-discussed disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop the series' continuation. The show will return with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which might be a positive development. Yet, the promotional image for the second cour is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they could be trolling the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it first appeared in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series showed it still retained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now everyone is thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works

Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been airing for a while, and its sixth season was another outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will very likely air in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

A further studio famous for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.

The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Second Season

Shortly after the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has not been disclosed yet.
